Hot wallets vs cold wallets
A hot wallet (like MetaMask) is connected to the internet, convenient for daily use but more exposed to hacks. A cold wallet (a hardware device like a Ledger) keeps your private key offline, only connecting briefly to sign transactions.
A common setup: keep small, everyday amounts in a hot wallet, and move larger holdings to a cold wallet you rarely connect.
