Fixed and mobile

Industrial robots are the robotic arms bolted to factory floors, welding, painting, and assembling with repeatable precision. A newer category, cobots (collaborative robots), are designed to work safely alongside humans in the same space instead of being fenced off.

Mobile robots, by contrast, move through their environment on wheels, legs, tracks, or wings. Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are the fleets of self-driving carts now common in warehouses, and they currently outnumber flashier humanoid robots on real factory and logistics floors by a wide margin.
