What are smart contracts? · 1/2
Programs with bank accounts
A smart contract is code deployed to a blockchain. Once deployed, it runs exactly as written, holds its own funds, and nobody can secretly change it. It is a vending machine: insert the right input and the output is guaranteed.
This is what makes DeFi, NFTs, and DAOs possible. The rules are enforced by the network itself, not by a company you have to trust.
