Keeping enough robots on the floor

A single robot's battery management is simple: charge it when it's low. A fleet's battery management is a scheduling problem, because every robot that is charging is a robot that isn't working, and a facility needs a minimum number of robots actively available at any given moment to keep order volume moving. If too many robots decide to charge at once, whether because they all reached a low battery threshold around the same time or because of a poorly designed policy, the fleet's effective capacity can drop sharply right when it's needed.

This means charging has to be staggered deliberately rather than left to each robot's independent judgment. A fleet-level charging strategy looks at battery levels across the whole fleet alongside current and predicted task demand, and schedules robots to charge in a sequence that keeps enough of the fleet on the floor at all times, rather than letting charging needs cluster unpredictably.
