This course covers the foundational natural language processing concepts that exist independently of, and predate, large language models: tokenization, word embeddings, and classic tasks like named entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and part-of-speech tagging. It's the first course in the NLP & Language Systems track, built for anyone who wants to understand the building blocks underneath modern LLMs rather than just how to prompt one, and it's distinct from this site's LLM-focused courses on retrieval-augmented generation and prompt engineering.
